Pubs, bars, restaurants run many risks. When people have a drink or two accidents can happen, and sometimes things can get rowdy. Insurance is there to protect the owner, licencee , manager, staff and customers from the consequences of unexpected problems.
The Norwich based Alan Boswell Group claims to be one of the biggest independent insurance brokers in Britain, with over 370 staff working out of seven offices. Incorporated in 1989 the group contains eight companies in all, providing services as insurance brokers, risk management and financial services. During 2020 they made donations of over £250,000 to benefit local charities. Their pub insurance package can cover public liability (to cover non-alcohol related issues such as trips, slips and falls); loss of income because of insured events; business contents, stock, theft, and personal injury. Loss of licence (leading to a fall in the value of the business) can be covered and other options include stock spoiling (eg as a result of refrigerator breakdown), buildings, fixtures and fittings, legal expenses, employee theft and even alterations to the building by a tenant. Pubs that take in guests or hold live entertainment can also be catered for.
Bollington Insurance Services is part of the Gallagher group, an insurance brokerage, HR consultancy and risk management company which was begun in 1927 and now employs more than 34,000 employees workdwide. Bollington themselves were established in 1973 and they employ around 400 people with offices in Liverpool, Manchester and Macclesfield. They specialise in business, courier van, risk management and motor trade insurance, amongst others. Their pub insurance package covers the usual public and employers liability, stock (including frozen food), assault and personal accident, loss of licence and business interruption cover. They can also cover other risks such as live entertainment, door staff, dancing, or a children's play area. It is possible to get online quotes but better to ring them to discuss individual insurance packages. They claim to be able to get quotes from a number of different insurers to provide comparisons.
Simply Business is a trading name for Xbridge Limited which was founded in 2005 to provide financial and insurance services. They specialise, amongst other fields, on business and landlord insurance. Their standard insurance quote form options cover contents (including fixtures and fittings), business interruption, public and employers liability, business equipment, stock, product liability and personal accident. As well as pubs they are happy to quote for fish and chip shops, wine bars, restaurants, coffee shops, cafes, guest houses and small hotels.
Titan Insurance Services Limited is an independent insurance broker which was set up in 1986. They are fairly small compared to their competitors with an average of 15 employees during 2020 but they claim to see this as an advantage since they don't have to produce huge profits for hedge funds and can give their clients a more personalised service. They are also not tied to one particular insurer and they claim a panel of over 100 to choose from including Hiscox, Allianz, Aviva, Zurich, AXA and RSA. Because of this wide spread they claim to be able to cover more risks that other companies shy away from such as pubs with a late licence and door security , entry charges, DJs, Karioke or live music, or children's play areas. They don't have an online quote and buy system since they believe that it is better to discuss policies as potentially compex as pub insurance with a specialist broker.
Business Insurance Broker is no minnow; it is a a trading name of Allianz Business Services, which in turn is owned by the giant Allianz Group. The German Allianz group was founded over 130 years ago and they are now an international broker working in more than 200 countries. They are able to take on policies for large companies as well as special risks ranging from simple public liability to Hollywood film actors or space satellite operators. Premierline, however, claim to be completely independent in the recommendations that they make, and that they have access to a wide range of insurers to get quotes from. They can provide cover for all kinds of licensed premises from major pub chains to local social clubs. Standard policies include the usual public and employers liability, and products liability. Premises can also be covered, including not only business premises, stock and fittings but personal property too, which may advisable if landlords or managers live on the premises. Business interuption, loss of licence and loss or theft of money can also be added to the policy.
