Employers' liability insurance is designed to compensate an employee who falls ill, or becomes injured, as a result of working for an employer. It is compulsory for anyone who employs someone else to have cover of at least £5 million, provided that the employee is not a family member.

AXA themselves will provide employers' liability insurance with £10 million of cover as standard, cover for temporary staff who work for less than 50 days per year, legal defence indemnity in the case of a claim dispute, and an option to pay monthly, rather than yearly. You can ring them for quotations or apply online. They calculate that they insure about 645,000 businesses across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
Although Direct Line aree better known as a car and home insurer their business insurance division will also provide employers' liability cover. In commom with their normal practice they sell these direct to the final consumer and they are so successful that they got a 2020 National Insurance Award for Commercial Lines Insurer Of The Year. Policies are underwritten by UK Insurance Limited which itself is part of the Direct Line Group.
Aviva employers' liability policies provide up to £10 million as standard. They cover legal costs for defending some health and safety law prosecutions, liability for work experience staff and compensation not exceeding £500 for any director, manager or staff member obliged to attend court in respect of an employee compensation claim. Specifically excluded however are claims arising from work on, or trips to, offshore installations or whilst the employee is on, or getting in or out of, a vehicle on a public highway, or any other location covered by Road Traffic Act legislation.
